The Detox Benefits of Dry Brushing

We all brush our hair and teeth, but how many of us brush our … skin?

This is a relatively new concept to me too so don’t worry you’re not alone. This is an age-old practice that has been around forever but it just started getting some attention in the beauty world. This weird exfoliating trend is one of the best-kept secrets to smooth skin and I had to start adding it to my skincare routine. They even have “dry brushing” as a spa service in hotels!

Dry brushing is not ambiguous, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Brushing your skin with a dry brush.

The wellness benefits are endless and it only takes about 5 minutes to add to your routine (we love convenience). Plus it makes your skin glow and reduces cellulite.

The Benefits of Dry Brushing

1. Natural Detoxification of Toxins

Since our skin is the largest organ and helps detoxify the body, it’s important to keep things moving. Our lymphatic system has a big job – it keeps us strong and healthy. When our lymph vessels become stagnant, impurities and waste build up. Dry brushing helps to stimulate this lymph flow within the body and get’s rid of nasty toxins.

2. Enhances Blood Circulation

Most of us underestimate the importance of blood circulation, it’s the most vital function in the body. It helps fight off disease and sicknesses and helps to remove waste from the body that is excreted from other organs. Dry brushing is an effective way to improve circulation and blood flow which in return gives us energy and keeps us healthy.

3. Promotes Even Fat Distribution

Aka- reduces cellulite. Our bodies naturally deposits fat in unwanted areas so stimulating circulation will help distribute fatty deposits evenly which will make skin appear smoother.

4. Exfoliates, Tones and Clears Dead Skin

Did you know our skin dies all the time? Yup! It’s essential for new skin cells to form. Dry brushing helps to loosen and remove dead skin cells so you can reveal your softer, smoother layer underneath.

5. Promotes Happiness and Relieves Stress

Ever notice you’re in a better mood after a massage? Many MDs and therapists recommend dry brushing as a great way to relieve stress. Improved circulation will make you feel more alert and energized while also boosting your mood.
